Play Area – Square design

The existing square was underutilized consisting of desolate hardscape reminiscent of a previous water feature. Soft edges and round shapes were introduced to soften the hard edge from retailers to the square. The play area has been designed around different age groups and with an understanding of the parental proximity requirements as well as age appropriate stimulation, with for instance benches at the sandpit for the younger toddler’s parent and the bigger play elements closer to where the external restaurant seats are. Access points were placed between landscaped planters to not only allow natural flows, but further assist with visual tracking of children and creating a safe play environment.

Two kiosks have been placed at the entrance to the square to further add vibrance to the area. The use of fairy lights to the trees and carnival lights over the square creates for a welcome and festive vibe come sunset…
